The Oscars is one of the most anticipated events of the year with displays of fashion, extravagance, and couture. Our favourite celebrities pulled out all the stops to wear their best looks including some of our most-loved brands on Edward Street. Find out how you can get the trends from the red carpet to your wardrobe.
Blending strong-lined silhouettes with finer accessories was a major style choice for many at the 2019 Oscars. Colours popped and so did the Cartier jewellery donned by many celebrities.
Rachel Weisz Glenn Close
Making a statement in a red Givenchy couture gown, Rachael Weisz added a touch of whimsy to the vibrant-coloured gown with a custom design of two Cartier 1903 Belle Epoque Brooches set in platinum woven into her tresses. Mixing the vine-like headpiece to the ensemble added texture and shine while creating a look that was eye-catching, powerful and feminine.
Continuing the trend of bold fashion was best actress nominee, Glenn Close, wearing a gold Carolina Herrera gown. Close completed the look with a pair of Cartier yellow gold and diamond drop earrings from the 1990s archive, a yellow gold, platinum and diamond ring circa 1970 and a yellow gold and diamond ring from 1995. Creating an unforgettable outfit that is truly timeless.
Letitia Wright Amy Adams
Opting for a more traditional outfit, Black Panther star Letitia Wright chose a nude and silver Dior Haute Couture a-line gown which she paired with contemporary jewellery pieces by Cartier. She wore the Cartier High Jewellery earrings in platinum and yellow sapphires, Etincelle de Cartier bracelets, one in yellow gold and one in rose gold. To finish the look the young actress added the Broderie de Cartier wedding band and two Etincelle de Cartier wedding bands in white gold. By pairing finer pieces with a textured gown, the actress created a look that was eye-catching and will truly stand the test of time.
Joining in with a lighter-toned look was Amy Adams, opting for a white, beaded column gown by Versace. Adams paired the stunning gown with a Cartier Collection Brooch clipped onto Cartier High Jewellery Tennis Necklace that blended contemporary and traditional shapes to create a chic and effortless look. Adams also wore Cartier collection diamond earrings circa 1934, Cartier Collection bracelet circa 1937 and for a more contemporary addition, a Cartier Collection ring from 2005.
Diego Luna Mahershala Ali Rami Malek
The men of the moment also shined in Cartier accessories, with stars Rami Malek, Diego Luna and Mahershala Ali pairing the brand with classic black tuxedos. Much like their accessory choices, cuff links and rings, the gentleman all kept the traditional suiting standard high with immaculate tailoring.
David Oyelowo Stephen James
It wouldn’t be an award season without seeing a gentleman’s take on bold fashion and this year’s red carpet was no exception. Velvet was a major trend on the red carpet, tailored in rich hues such as David Oyelowo’s emerald green suit created by Etro, a brand that is stocked by Mitchell Ogilvie. Also arriving in a textured three-piece suit, Stephen James wowed in a pop of colour with a crimson Etro suit.
This season’s trends melded traditional elegance with strong silhouettes and colours, and confirmed texture and shine is a must to add to our wardrobes.
